Canoeing in lakes is generally safer, but check the weather forecast before you head out - sudden storms can create waves that make canoeing difficult and dangerous.

Finally, be prepared for your canoe trip by packing some essential gear. Besides food and water, you'll need sunscreen, insect repellent, and a first-aid kit. A map is also a good idea, in case you get lost.
